Origo/Safecom Router Repair CD

What Router?

The firmwares can be loaded on the majority of routers based on the Conexant chipset. A non-exhaustive list can be found at routertech.org (Class 1 router)

When Safecom split from Origo and went their own sweet way, they decided to confuse everybody by changing the model numbers. These are the ones known about but the list may not be complete.

Origo/Safecom Router Repair CD Version 5.4

This CD was designed to help those people running Windows 2000 or XP on NTFS partitions repair their router (It can also be used on PC's with FAT/FAT32 or even Linux ext2/3/reiserfs partitions.)

The only limitation is the Flash program that is used. This seems to be very fussy about the chipset in your machine. It is known to work with VIA & Intel but not with SIS, nForce2 & KT266. If you find other chipsets that it will/will not work with, please let me know and I will add them to the list.

Flash instructions can be found on routertech.org and also on the CD.

What's on the CD?

This CD contains the following firmwares:-

  • 080902_REL8K
  • 110502_REL10_S
  • 01/12/03-Snerkel (non-firewall)
  • 4.1.0.9_Snerkel_020304
  • 4.1.0.9_BEAST_020304
  • 4.1.0.9.F.3.2.1_021804-Beast
  • 4.1.0.9.F-3.2.1_021804
  • 4.1.0.21_FS-040623
  • 4.1.0.21_FS-030704
  • 4.1.0.21_SWAMR-030704
  • safecom.cn_10-07-04
  • Safecom-041025 (Newest version - does not contain uPnP)
  • JMK 4.1.0.21_100_01OCT04
  • Amigo Firmware (5000VS) *

* This can not be upgraded from the boot menu. Please read the update.doc in the Amigo folder.

For general use, I recommend the JMK firmware. If you need LOTS of port forwards (>1024) then the Amigo software can handle up to 5000.

As the Conexant chipset is now very old (in PC terms) and has been superceded by chipsets capable of ADSL2, there will probably never be a new release of firmware for these routers.
